Elvira's story

66-year-old Elvira L. is the mother of two children. Now she is also a supportive grandmother to her grandchildren. After the death of her husband, Elvira had her children and grandchildren to think about and to have a reason for living. Her membership in ASHI since 1997 has given her a chance to have her own business and to keep herself busy. From an initial loan of Php 5,000, she can now borrow Php 25,000 and can even reach the peak amount in the future, because she has maintained her excellent performance thoughout her membership in ASHI. Therefore, Elvira's wish of expanding her business with the help of her eldest child, who is her business partner, is about to happen, because it has now grown, although not yet to the extent that she expects. When she will reach the highest amount ASHI can offer to lend her, she plans to rent a space in the market where she can sell dried fish. With the opportunities she can get from her membership in ASHI, she can also help her children send their children to school. When she passes away, at least she has made her business successful and her children can own a business some day.
