Maria Libinia's story

The canton of Rocafuerte is known as the granary of Manabí. Here there is a great variety of crops, such as coriander, tomato, pepper, lemon trees, coconut palms, etc. There is also crafting of decorative tagua objects, clay pots, and handmade candy. They are well known inside and outside of the country.

Maria is 44 years old. She is married, and her husband is a driver. To help with the expenses and earn her own income, Maria is taking advantage of her knowledge of dressmaking. She has a small sewing workshop in her house. There she works making all types of clothing for ladies, men, and children. Her work is based on orders from individuals. However, in seasons, she also makes uniforms for the local institutions and the primary and secondary schools. She works every day from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm and sometimes later when she has orders to deliver.

With this new loan, she will purchase threads, zippers, and fabrics and do maintenance on the machines that she has. She has been in the loan group for 35 cycles, and she likes it because she has a group that is very united and responsible with payments. Her dream is to have workshop that is bigger and very well known inside and outside of the province.
