Catherine's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to start running her own business as a Zoona mobile money transfer agent so that she can provide financial services to her community.

Catherine's story

Twenty-four-year-old Catherine is married and mother to a toddler. Catherine sadly has been unemployed for two years because she didn't do well on her final exam in 2014. She has taken up an opportunity to become an entrepreneur and manage her own business with training from Zoona to help prepare her with the necessary skills.

Catherine is excited as she'll become independent and would be able to help her family members who have supported her through the hard times. Catherine resides in Phalombe, a very rural area in Malawi where there is only one bank in the whole district. This has lots of opportunity for Catherine's business to flourish as the community would have better access to financial services. Catherine will be helping her community send and receive money without them incurring any of the usual extra expenses when moving money via manual channels and also saving them time.

Catherine is reaching out to Kiva because she is unable to accumulate the capital to start her business. With this loan, she will be able to attain a kiosk to trade from and a float to perform her customers' transactions.

Catherine is excited to learn through her business and share her learning with other future startup businesses in and around her community.
