A loan helped buy more inventory from independent designers, launch a full e-commerce website, aids in advertising expenses and special events, and keeps cash flow for the boutique.
I grew up in West Philadelphia, with roots in North Philadelphia. My grandfather, George Adolphus Johnson, was a family physician and worked in the neighborhood. His medical practice helped fully sustain our family, send my uncles to college, and keep us (my siblings and I) in parochial school. I never needed much of anything when our grandfather was around, since he was a provider. I grew to admire his entrepreneurial spirit. When I embarked on my own business I constantly looked at his legacy for guidance. I realized that he faced more challenges than I would have since he was an African American male, opening a business in the late 60s. I know that his spirit guides my decisions as a business owner daily, and now that I have a brick and mortar location I really feel his directional pull toward my inner dreams as a flourishing business owner.
