Shawna's story

My name is Shawna Jones. I am a walking, talking, miracle of God. Extraordinary and improving. Born at 7 months, 2 pounds and 3 ounces to two broken people searching for the answers and unsure of what love really was. It wouldn’t be long before the phenomenal drug of the 80’s crack cocaine would destroy their marriage and nearly take their lives. After the resolve of my parents' tumultuous marriage, filled with infidelity and physical abuse, my mother and I would move to Newport, News, VA where we would stay until my great-grandmother in New York took ill and needed her families support. Growing up in Virginia is hard to describe. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. It was a brand new shiny bicycle with glitter streams, Saturday afternoon Baskin Robbins, Beauty Salon visits, TJMaxx shopping sprees with Auntie but it was also court cases and a child phycologist for molestation. It was a suburban miracle, filled with swimming pools, Sunday school, sleepovers and dancing parties but it was also filled with drug dealers, gun-shots, toys for tots, the death of my father and food pantries. The wonder years. Moving to New York brought about an entirely new set of challenges. I learned to “make due”. Having everything required was no longer a necessity for completion. I learned to substitute, be creative and resourceful. I decided to be in charge of my emotions and how I would feel and talk to myself about my story. I started to use positive affirmations to create the experiences I wanted to have in my days and nullify the negative self-chatter that would consume my quiet moments in conjunction with the word of God shifting my sorrow into strength. Today, I am the wife to my high school sweetheart and mother of two. With the support of my family I have been able to earn an MBA in Media Management and graduate with honors. During undergraduate and graduate school, I learned the skill of thinking like an owner, being business minded. As a way to cut cost and keep my children healthy and happy during the summer months on our traveling trips I’d make them beverages to satisfy and keep them away from the sugary distractions which they enjoyed and requested. After a full day of play and activity my children would have baby aches and soreness. I would relax them, nurture and comfort them with a relaxing bath. I’d add special ingredients to which proved effective. Most recently I am a winner of the Food Pathways program for my all natural cold-pressed beverage line Eden’s Garden Juices. Which are for refreshment and bathing based on the word of God encouraging each individual to Be Fruitful!
