Nyame Nhyira Group's story

Mary is 40 years old. She is married and has three children. They are all boys and are in school. Her husband is a trader who works hard to support his wife in talking care of the home. She sells food items such as maize, rice, plantain, cassava etc. She has been in this business for over fifteen years now. She says she sells at the market square during their market days. She wants a loan to increase her working capital so that her dream of buying goods in bulk can be achieved. In this way, she can supply to a large number of customers to increase her market size, hence increasing her profit margin to care for her children.

She is the leader of a trust bank group called ‘Nyame Nhyira’ which literary means God’s Blessing. She is the one sitting in front in the group photograph. Most of the members of this group are petty traders, food vendors and/or farmers. In this group, members guarantee for one another as social collateral to access the loan and peer pressure to repay the loan.
