María Candelaria's story

In the parish of La Sequita de Montecristi, a town known for its famous straw hats which are appreciated inside and outside of the country. Its residents also make a living in agriculture.

Maria lives here. She is 39 years old, married and from this relationship has four children who are 23, 21, 19 and 17 years old. The last one is in school. Her husband is a shopkeeper.

Maris is an exemplary wife. She takes loans to help her husband. He works selling fruit and vegetables in their town and neighboring areas. He works everyday and buys products in Portoviejo or Manta in the markets of wholesalers, and sells the products to his customers. He has around worked in this area for 24 years, which has allowed their family to survive.

With this new loan she will buy seasonal fruits and vegetables. She has been in this credit group for 18 cycles and she likes it because interest is low and loans are fast without much paperwork. Her dream is to have a big store to sell fruits and vegetables in her home.
