Lydie Claire's story

Hi my name is Lydie and I am originally from England but have lived in the states since I was 5 years old. I grew up in San Diego and in my early 20s I spent time living in various places, including London, Brussels, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York but ultimately ended up back in San Diego, can't beat the weather here and I love its proximity to Mexico! I found that travel has really shaped my world view and has helped me see that really anything is possible. I was raised (with two other siblings) by a single mom. When my dad left, we went from a wealthy lifestyle to being on welfare. I watched my mom struggle to find work and go to law school and eventually open her open business. Even though times were tough, I learned the importance of having a good work ethic and how you can make something from nothing. I would definitely say I was born to be an entrepreneur. In my early 20s I started an after-school program called Reel Arts Education that taught cinematic arts to students grades 3-12. Currently I own and operate a food stand that sells fried chicken sandwiches. Even though running your own business is hard I love the freedom of being able to make my own decisions regarding its direction and also having the chance to do some good in the world. Just writing this has made me realize how truly lucky I am to have the upbringing that I had and the experiences.
