Stefanie's story

We entered the coffee roasting business in July, 2011. Glenn’s background is in architecture and construction (mid 1980s onward). I’ve been a litigation attorney (1994-2006), freelance lawyer (2006-2009) and copywriter, speaker and trainer (since 2009). Glenn was laid off from his architecture job in late 2009. No stranger to the entrepreneurial spirit, he got some small projects here and there. But the Great Recession meant most people were not looking to design a new home or remodel their existing homes. Meanwhile, I spent YEARS complaining about the quality of coffee beans available in certain chain coffee stores, and not much else was available in Vegas at the time. Glenn ordered a small home roaster from Ebay and some green coffee beans from Sweet Maria’s. We were astounded at the difference freshly roasted beans made - in terms of taste, experience, everything! The complaining stopped. In spring 2011 we visited friends in Tucson, AZ and witnessed Adventure Coffee Roasting at a Farmer’s Market. The guy was roasting on site and selling the freshly roasted beans. Glenn said “we can do that.” Weeks later we invested in our first Sonofresco air roaster and were set up at our first Farmer’s Market. We sell our freshly roasted coffee primarily to consumers, both in person and online. Two of our FAVORITE sources of beans: Cafe Femenino, a foundation whose mission is to “Enhance the lives of women and families in the coffee-producing communities throughout the world.” A Little Further South - imports direct market green coffee beans via the Curibamba project to “improve the standard of living for the coffee growers that work so hard to ensure we have our great coffee in the morning.” In December, 2016 we launched a new branch of the business, for which seek a loan to buy equipment.
