Meria's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to pay for her set-up costs so that she can start running her own business.

Meria's story

Meria is 22 years old. She was born in Kasungu and has always been at the top of her class. She is passionate about education and dreams of getting a master's degree in financial accounting.

Meria's challenge is that she recently relocated to Mzuzu and is dependent on her parents to send her money for her rentals and her upkeep. This makes her sad because her parents are farmers and they do not have enough money to support two households.

It is for this reason that Meria has decided to start running her own business. Her business will deal in money transfers and bill payments. People in Mzuzu will go to her kiosk to access these financial services. Setting up her business will help serve the community, where the majority of the people are unbanked.

Meria has requested a loan from Kiva to be able to pay for her set-up costs. These include a small trading kiosk where she will conduct her business, and providing the float needed to serve customers.

Meria is hopeful that by setting up her own business, she will be able to support herself and be the one to send money back home to her parents in Kasungu, and at the same time help her achieve her dream of having a master’s degree in financial accounting.
