A loan helped to buy cereals to offer for sale.

Ruth's story

Ruth is an accomplished farmer from the Eldoret area of Kenya. She has been involved in mixed and dairy farming for the past 10 years. Because of her immense knowledge, farmers from her village often seek technical advice from her on the best dairy farming techniques. She is highly respected by the members of her community.

Ruth and her husband have six children, and she is the primary breadwinner for her family. This pushes her to work hard so that her children will have a bright future, and also so that she can offer her aging parents a comfortable life.

Although she makes a profit from farming, Ruth would like to increase her income in order to better provide for her family. She has always wanted to augment her living through selling cereals, since the Eldoret area, one of the country's populated regions, has a high demand for them. Ruth is confident that she can meet this existing need in the community and increase her profits. With this goal in mind, Ruth has applied for a 40,000 KES loan through Kiva field partner Juhudi Kilimo. She will use her loan funds to buy cereals to offer for sale.

Accessing funds for this venture has been a challenge for Ruth, so she is relieved and happy to be receiving this assistance from Juhudi Kilimo. The organization is partnering with Kiva lenders to help hardworking women farmers like Ruth turn their farming dreams into reality through training and loan financing.

Ruth extends her thanks for your involvement and help.
