Myay Pyar Kan-4 (D) Village Group's story

The featured borrower of Myay Pyar Kan-4 (D) is Mya (second from the left). He represents the other loan clients shown in the picture: San, Htay, Hla, and Win.

Mya is 48 years old and married with three children (two sons and a daughter). Mya earns a living as a farmer whose major crops are sesame, pigeon pea, and chickpea. Besides farming, raising goats is Mya’s secondary income source and currently he keeps 41 goats. Mya’s loan portion will be invested to purchase five more goats in order to increase his goat numbers. This will ideally result in higher income and better cash flow for his household. He dreams of being a large livestock breeder in his area in the future.

Myay Pyar Kan-4 (D) Village Group is in Magway Township. Magway Township is in the area known as the dry zone area in Myanmar where inadequate rainfall is very common compared to other regions. This township is famous for its production of tobacco, the traditional cosmetic, “Thanakha,” and cotton fabrics. Thus, villagers around this area mainly grow tobacco, cotton, and a variety of beans as well.
