Sima's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to expand her handloom business by purchasing a new loom and more thread.

Sima's story

Sima is a 27-year-old woman from a village in the Nadia district, West Bengal. Sima and her husband run a handloom saree business. They weave beautiful handloom sarees and sell them in the market. Their household income is 7,800 INR, which isn't sufficient to meet their daily needs as well as keep their business running.

Sima wants to expand the scale of their business and gain a higher income. She wants to purchase an additional loom and raw thread from the market. Lacking the savings required, she has approached Gram Bikash, Milaap's partner, for a loan of 18,000 INR.

Handloom weavers are in danger of extinction due to the lack of profits and the lack of appreciation for their trade. Artists like Sima need to be preserved and supported. The couple will use the loan amount to purchase raw thread and support the functioning of their business.
