Cuatro Caminos Group's story

The Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Cuatro Caminos” or “Four Roads” is located outside the 2nd largest city in Guatemala called Quetzaltenango. There are 9 women in the group & they are beginning their 2nd loan cycle with Kiva. They look forward to their monthly meetings when they make payments on their loans & then participate in educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program (loans + education) of Friendship Bridge. The ladies learn to empower themselves (sexual & reproductive health, self esteem), support their families (nutrition, hygiene, health) & successfully manage their businesses (planning, budgeting, savings).

Brenda, a 46 year old mother of 5, is the President of the group. She has a small chicken farm & buys chicks that she fattens up & sells both inside & outside of her community. She is requesting a loan to buy 60 chickens & feed to fatten them up. Brenda shares that her 9th grade education, as well as the monthly training have helped her a great deal. She is proud that all of her children have been to school & have professional careers including her youngest who is 16 years old.

Brenda & the ladies in the Trust Bank send their gratitude to Kiva investors for providing the funding for their loans! Happy New Year to each of you!
