I was born and raised in Queens, New York, in 1971 to Margaret and James Allen. I was youngest of three boys we were not poor and we were definitely not rich even though I thought we were. My father was a painter and my mother did house keeping jobs I remember my father giving us allowances and then one day he said you kids have to do chores to get your allowances which I didn't like but what I came to realize he was teaching us a valuable lesson: you have to work to earn your money! My father opened up a small hardware store in St. Albanys, Queens, New York and I would work there after school and on the weekends. I would go with him to Brooklyn warehouses to buy supplies for the store. From 1985 to 1993 when the store closed down I learned a little of everything marketing, inventory, opening up the store and closing the store by myself, being on time, working with customers solving problems. This is where I got my entrepreneurial spirit from watching my father James Allen work daily. In 1991 I met my future wife Lori, she had a passion for fashion and making custom keepsake books for her friends and family, she would not charge them and I would tell her you should charge for your keepsake books, but she just loved making them and being creative. One day I was watching a popular tv show called 'The Profit' and I saw this machine that prints shirts onto paper, its called (DTG) Direct to garment printing, so i researched this machine and the garment apparel business from 2013-2015. I looked at the local competition and what we can do better and different. In 2014 I came to my mother in law and future partner with a business idea to get into the garment embellishment business, she thought it was a great idea, and with her background as a seamstress, my entrepreneurial spirit and my wife's creativity and love for fashion, we knew we had a great formula for success. In 2015 SIC APPAREL CUSTOMS was launched!
