Euralie's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase a solar powered recharge station to charge mobile phones and LED lights for rural households that are without electricity.

Euralie's story

Euralie is a 49 year-old lady from the Ruhango district in the Southern province of Rwanda. Her village has no electricity and she is seeking a loan to purchase a solar panel and equipment that will enable her to create a mobile phone charging business.

There are an estimated 120 households in her village, most of which have mobile phones, a critical tool for villagers to communicate with their families and to conduct business. Without electricity people have resorted to dangerous alternatives such as using car batteries to recharge their mobile phones. With the proper equipment, Euralie will be able to provide a safer and affordable option to recharge phones.

Euralie will repay the Kiva loan by charging USD 0.13 per phone recharge, a price similar to the current car battery solutions. Euralie is a cassava farmer and the additional income from recharging mobile phones will be used to pay for medical insurance.
