Pablo Jaime's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase a biodigester to turn farm waste into renewable resources.

Pablo Jaime's story

Pablo Jaime is a farmer in Tlaxcala, he raises cows and grows tomatoes in large greenhouses. He lives with his family, and the income from the farm is the main source of income to support his family. He dreams of saving money and being self-sufficient in his energy and fertilizer production, to become a model for sustainable small-scale farming.

Pablo Jaime is currently spending too much money on the propane required to heat his greenhouses, and to power his home for cooking and hot water. His 240 cubic meter Sistema Biobolsa biodigester will allow him to use the abundant cow and pig manure on-site to replace the gas, to keep his tomatoes warm in the winter through hot water pipes heated by biogas. The biodigester will transform the "waste" into two important resources; methane-rich, renewable biogas and potent biofertilizer.

Not only will Pablo Jaime use the biogas to heat his greenhouse, cook and heat bathwater for his family, but Pablo Jaime will also use the biofertilizer from the biodigester to increase yields on his crops. With this biofertilizer, he will no longer have to resort to expensive, petroleum-based agrochemical fertilizers.

This loan represents 31% of the total cost of the biodigester, the remaining part is covered by a cash downpayment and a government subsidy.
