Kati's story

I grew up in Brenham, Texas -- not too far away from Austin (a very small town, with little culinary variation other than BBQ). As a food service professional with over 10 years experience, I have spent my time managing front and back of house operations at local restaurants, as well as currently managing a $1 million+ catering operation for The University of Texas at Austin. Over the course of my career, I have served as Culinary Director, Consultant, Caterer, Chef de Cuisine, and many other positions. What I originally started as a tiny supper club in my backyard, has grown into an extensive following and business. My passion for food and travel inevitably led me to Peru. Were I did extensive research (a ton of eating), meeting with Chef's, and hanging out with locals to discuss the culture in relation to Texas. From there I have spent the last 3 years researching, developing, and cooking as part of my goal to increase cultural awareness and to help diversify the Austin food scene. I most recently organized a Food Tour in Lima, Peru that involved participating in Mistura (The largest South American Food Festival), to learn, to grow, and to soak in the culture and the goodness that is Peruvian cooking. When I got back, I was more invigorated than ever to push this project to completion. With all of this knowledge that I have gained, I plan on opening Killa Wasi and eventually expanding to multiple locations. After that...eventually a brick and mortar restaurant.
