Perlas Preciosas San Pedro Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy high quality fabric, thread, zippers, decorations & other essential supplies so she has plenty of sewing supplies on hand.

Perlas Preciosas San Pedro Group's story

The Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Perlas Preciosas San Pedro” or “Precious Pearls of San Pedro” was formed by 7 Maya Tz'utujil ladies who want to empower themselves, educate their children & eliminate poverty. They live on the shores of the magnificent Lake Atitlan & are requesting a loan to invest in their businesses that include convenience stores, as well as the purchase/sales of hats, shirts & pants. They are beginning their 4th loan cycle with Kiva.

The women have learned how to manage their loans through the “Microcredit Plus” program (loans + education) of Friendship Bridge. At their monthly meetings, a Facilitator from the organization shares information with them in their Tz'utujil language about an aspect of health, women, family & business. As the ladies have had little or no formal education, this information is very much appreciated & quite useful for them.

Maria is a member of the group with a bookkeeping certificate. She also has a small workshop where she sews blouses, aprons, bedspreads & also alters & repairs clothing. With the goal of having plenty of sewing supplies on hand, Maria is requesting a loan to buy high quality fabric, thread, zippers, decorations & other essential supplies. She shares that she has learned a lot from the monthly training about budgeting, savings, planning, as well as preventative health practices & women’s rights.

Thank you, Kiva investors, for partnering with Friendship Bridge in this effort!
