Elena's story

53-year old Elena lives in the district of Laredo, Trujillo province, in the department of La Libertad, Peru. She is a businesswoman, has completed 6th graD. of primary school, and has five children, only one of whom is still financially dependent on her. She earns her living by selling clothing for children, men and women. With her first loan of 300 soles Elena bought food items such as rice, sugar, noodles, potatoes, soft drinks, and candy which which she sold in her store. Currently she only sells clothing. With this loan of 2,000 soles she will buy more clothing for men, women, and children. She also plans to buy school supplies such as notebooks, crayons, pencils, pens, erasers, scissors etc. She has maD. space in her house from which to sell these items, and hopes one day to open a bookstore.
