Brittany's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped us achieve non-profit status, finish our online platform which will help us expand our affordable music program, create a stipend for high school volunteers, and develop a summer Music camp.
Yesterday I taught a child to wrap a present for a child in Haiti. "I have never wrapped a present before Ms. Brittany, can you help me?" This almost brought tears to my eyes. A child that came into my program as a bully was now sweet and docile and trying to help others. This made me think of my childhood where as a child I was bullied mercilessly everyday from 3rd-7th grade. I know what it is to be a underdog and to feel like you don't fit in anywhere. Now, I know that the reason that I was allowed to go through those things was so that I could mentor children going through similar issues. Music was a safe haven for me and for six years, I have been able to use it to inspire many children who feel isolated, angry, depressed, or not "smart enough". I teach every child that they are smart, valued, and help to build their confidence. When children come to my program, they have a safe place to come where they can feel like kids and be themselves. There's smiling laughing, learning...every child should have a chance to have this. I think, what if the kids that bullied me had a music program like mine to go to after school...how would that have changed them?
