Kuppammal's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped buy the ingredients to make sweets such as those made with puffed rice and jaggery to sell.

Kuppammal's story

Kuppammal is 27 and hails from a middle-class family of four from the Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu. She is a daily-wage laborer. Her current income is very low at 12,500 INR a month, out of which she must spend 9,000 INR on the household. She therefore lacks the capital required to start a business.

Kuppammal has now applied for a 20,000 INR loan through Kiva's field partner GMF, which is Milaap’s field partner. (GMF provides loan support and training to rural women who wish to expand their enterprises.) With her loan she can buy the necessary ingredients to produce sweets such as those made with puffed rice and jaggery as found in Urandhai. She will sell them in the local market and can expect a rise in her income of about 1,500 INR a month.

Kuppammal and her family members are most thankful to Milaap and its partners who will help her with her venture. It will ensure them improved living standards.
