Mujeres De Guatemaya Group's story
The six members of this group live in Caserio Chuinahualate, a small village that is part of the town of Guineales, Department of Suchitepéquez, Guatemala. Five of these women weave, embroider and/or sell traditional clothing. The sixth has a tiny store selling basic commodities. These women are now ready to start a third cycle in which they can grow their businesses even more. Lidea Marceleana has been the president of the group because of the leadership skills she demonstrates. She is 22 years old, married and has no children. She has high school training to be a teacher but because she was unable to find work she opened her business selling traditional clothing. Her dream is to earn enough profit to go to university and finish her studies as a teacher. Her immediate goal is to continue adding more to her stock of skirts, blouses and fabric. When she entered the Namaste program at the beginning of the first cycle, her monthly net profit was 3,188 Guatemalan Quetzales. Recently, as she finished her second cycle, her monthly net profit was Q. 7,175. She is projecting that by the end of this third nine month cycle her monthly net profit will be Q. 9,535
