Con Nueva Esperanza Group's story

“Con Nueva Esperanza” or “With New Hope” is the name of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank formed by 7 ladies in the high mountains of Chimaltenango. They are on their 2nd loan cycle with KIVA. The women meet monthly, participating in the “Microcredit Plus” program that combines loans + education.

They gained valuable business tools in training that help them with their businesses that include the sale of new clothing, prepared foods, tortillas, fruit, also their businesses selling yummy iced fruit confections called “granizadas”. They empower themselves with practical, applicable lessons on other topics like health, hygiene & nutrition, as well as self-esteem & empowerment.

Norma is a member of the group with a 9th grade education. She is 39 years old & has a popular fruit business. Since there is a large demand for her fruit, she is requesting a loan to buy oranges, pineapples, papayas, apples, grapes, watermelons & a tropical fruit called “jocote”. With the income from her business, Norma wants to invest in the education of her 4 children who range in age from 16-22. She dreams of a more prosperous & successful business with increased sales!

With the generosity of KIVA investors participating with Friendship Bridge, Norma & her friends truly have new hope!
