Colonia Los Angeles Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy undergarments for men and women, jackets, and bedding items.

Colonia Los Angeles Group's story

Huehuetenango is one of 22 departments/states in Guatemala characterized by high mountains and cool temperatures. Eight women who live in this area have formed the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Colonia Los Angeles” and are beginning their first loan cycle with Kiva.

Education is a critical part of alleviating poverty and building better lives. The “Microcredit Plus” program (education + loans) is an effective combination for these eight women! At their monthly meetings, they learn about the world within them (self-esteem, empowerment, women’s rights, sexual and reproductive health), and effective ways to care for their families (nutrition, hygiene) and their businesses (planning, budgeting, savings).

Magdalena is a member of the Trust Bank. She has a third grade education. She sells new clothing. This is her busiest time of the year, since the holidays and graduations are fast approaching. Magdalena wants to have plenty of inventory available. She is requesting a loan to buy undergarments for men and women, jackets, and bedding items.

Magdalena understands the tremendous importance of a good education and is committed to seeing her four children, who range in age from 3-13, have a complete education, including their diplomas and a more prosperous future.

Because of the generosity and kindness of Kiva lenders, Magdalena and her friends in the Trust Bank are creating their own pathways out of poverty. Thank you!
