A loan helped to build a greenhouse.

Alipi's story

Alipi is a 53-year-old villager and a married mother of one, and she has been part of some project organized by our country's main Greek Orthodox Church with headquarters in the capital city of Tirana. The project, in collaboration with VFA specifically, has been helping some families in a certain commune to build greenhouses.

Alipi works as a janitor in the village school, but she gets paid by teachers and children who attend the school, and what she makes is just $47.40/month, and she receives $34.00/month social assistance.

Her family owns about eight dynyms (1 dynym equals 1,000 square meters) of land where they plant mostly fodder and corn on four dynyms, seasonal veggies in two dynyms, and have planted orchards (cherries, figs, plums, persimmons and grapevines) on the other two.

Alipi was also given about three dynyms of olive groves from her in-laws, and she uses the harvest for the family to make either olive oil or pickles.
