Port- San Jose De Las Peñas Group's story

Peñas is a place located a few kilometers from the city of Portoviejo, a city of people mainly working in agriculture. With the desire of improving their financial situation this group of 11 women and one man decided to join together to access the benefits of a loan from Fundación Espoir.

Lorena is part of this group. She is 32 years old and in a common-law relationship from which she has two children who are 14 and 12 years old. Both are studying in school. Her husband is a merchant.

More than 9 years ago she and her husband stocked a grocery store in their home. They began with very little and currently the store is very well stocked. Now with the loan they hope to continue improving their store even more. It is her life since it is there she and her beloved husband share their work.

In the mornings Lorena is the one in charge of running the store and already in the afternoon her husband takes over from her as she has to do the household work. But generally they are together in the business and in giving the best education to their children.

This loan is to buy rice, oil, soaps and to stock the store. This is her first loan cycle and she hopes to continue many years more with the help of loans. Her dreams are to continue improving her business and to work together with her beloved husband for many more years. Cecilia Ruiz is the person who appears on the extra picture. She couldn't come to the group meeting.
