A loan helped with expansion of my line.
I grew up in Russia. In a small town near Belgrade. The town is surrounded by forest with a river running along the main street. I spent a lot of time outside exploring nature, gardening with my grandmother and playing sports. In school my favorite subjects were painting, literature, and chemistry. Painting was a creative outlet where I learned about colors and shapes. Literature taught me to analyze human behavior based on circumstances. Chemistry gave me the opportunity to break standard rules discovering ways to improve upon existing systems. My creativity allowed me to find a love for fashion. I would experiment with conventional pieces of clothing coming up with a new look. Some of these looks were too unexpected for my small town. My mother fostered both my creativity and love of fashion by requiring me to make simple versions of clothing I wanted to buy. This taught me pattern-making and sewing skills. I spent summers with my grandmother while she worked in a Ukrainian military warehouse. I admired the durable, high quality and utilitarian designs of the uniforms there. To further my creativity, I earned a hairstyling degree during my junior year of high school. By working as a hairstylist, I was able to support myself during college years in Russia. All of these experiences gave me the drive to come to the US and complete a Fine Arts degree at the University of Cincinnati and start my business TextileHaus. Creating my line gives me energy and balance turning each piece into a beautiful work of art. I currently sell my pieces in a few small boutiques and at creator fairs. My dream is to have my own design house giving TextileHaus room to grow by developing additional lines for the brand and our own textiles.
