Dios Nos Ayudara Group's story

Friendship Bridge delivers its “Microcredit Plus” Program (loans + education) to nearly 30,000 indigenous ladies in Guatemala. The northwestern department/state of Quiché is the home of the Trust Bank "Dios Nos Ayudara" or “God will help us” with 7 industrious members who have a variety of businesses like buying/selling traditional clothing, book stores, perfumes, & convenience stores. The group is very pleased to begin their third loan cycle with Kiva.

Although most Maya women do not have a formal education, 35 year old Andrea is an exception. She received a secretarial diploma. She is widowed & has 2 children (8 & 11). Andrea works very hard at her catalog business selling creams, lotions, perfumes & a variety of gifts, in order to provide a better life & education for her children. With the loan requested, Andrea will buy products (rice, coffee, sugar, milk, pasta, and bulk beverages) to open a convenience store.

Andrea & her friends feel very fortunate to participate in monthly meetings with a Friendship Bridge Facilitator where they learn about their businesses (investing, budgeting, indebtedness), nutrition, health, or developing self-esteem. The winning combination of loans + education is called "Microcredit Plus" & is possible because of the partnership with KIVA investors. Thank you for your generosity investing in the women of Quiche that helps them to step out of poverty & have a brighter future!
