Kalpna Raja's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to expand her bamboo basket business.

Kalpna Raja's story

Kalpna is a young married woman, who stays with her husband and a small girl child. Although she was married early and couldn't finish her studies, she acquired some skills which will help her a long way. One of them is using bamboo to make baskets. A profession sparsely taken up by anyone, it involves engaging women that have better eyesight. The bamboo sticks are finely cut and chiseled, which in turn are molded and tied to make concave baskets of different sizes. Although it sounds like an easy job, it involves a lot of time and the pay depends upon demand of the baskets.

Kalpna wants to pursue the same. She believes that her knowledge of bamboo baskets shouldn't go to waste. And although the business might not always be fruitful, it can still help the family to keep floating. For this she sought a loan of INR 10,000 from Milaap, a partner of Prayas. She already has started making them, but due to financial stability, has been unable to expand it. This loan will help her get a better standing.
