Rosas Del Jardin Group's story

The “Microcredit Plus” Program of Friendship Bridge (loans + education) is an effective vehicle for almost 30,000 women to empower themselves and create their own solutions to poverty. This is what the 8 women in the Trust Bank “Rosas del Jardin” in the Guatemalan department/state of Huehuetenango are doing, as they invest funds from their loans and improve life for themselves and their families. They meet monthly with a Facilitator from the organization & learn about a specific topic in one of 4 pillars: family, business, health & women. They are in their 3rd loan cycle with Kiva. Their businesses range from the sales of shoes, new clothing, and mobile food sales.

Brenda, a married mother of 2 children (11 and 16), is a member of the group who finished the 3rd grade. She is happy that her children are in the 5th & 6th grades. Brenda has a food business; she prepares and sells delicious Guatemalan dishes like “chuchitos” and tamales made of meat and corn masa. Because her business is increasing, Brenda is requesting a loan to buy rice, corn, meat, firewood and gas. Her biggest dream is that the business will continue to grow, her income will increase, and she can continue to cover the educational costs of her children.

The success of the “Microcredit Plus” Program of Friendship Bridge would not be possible without the participation of Kiva investors. Thank you for supporting Brenda and her friends in the Trust Bank so they can create a new pathway out of poverty!
