A loan helped to purchase organic fertilizer and seed for organic rice faming.

Nongnut's story

Mrs. Nongnut is a 34 year-old organic rice farmer from Thailand. She used to work at a medical magazine company as a logistics officer. At that time, she usually fought with bad traffic congestion in Bangkok and had to bear constant pressure from her boss. Eventually, she decided to quit and went back to her home town to begin organic rice farming 13 years ago. She has 25-acres of farmland, but only half of this area is used to grow rice since the other half is covered by large thick trees. On her certified organic farmland, she plants rice once a year, and after approximately 6 months of growing, the rice is harvested and for her income. However, she is now facing a problem of poor soil quality due to drought earlier this year, and she needs to improve the quality of her soil in preparation for this coming season. Mrs. Nongnut desires a loan to purchase organic fertilizer and seed for organic rice farming in this upcoming season. She expects that this support will help her rice yield increase by 20 percent, which she can then sell for more income. She plans to save some of her income for the future of her single child’s education, and to keep the rest for purchasing more fertilizer and seed next season.
