A loan helped to purchase seeds and fertilizer, and to pay labour costs.

Chit Thu (2) F Village Group's story

Pictured above are Ahmar, Win and Aung, who are loan clients in this village, Chit Thu. The village is situated in central Myanmar’s Pakokku Township, Due to unpredictable weather, villagers have to find additional income sources to ensure that they will have enough money to support the education and health of their families. Some, therefore, migrate to the cities or nearby mines in search of employment. For those who stay in the village, livestock raising is quite a popular way to earn additional income. Also, they grow sesame, groundnuts, and chilies.

Ahmar (first from the right in the photo) is a featured borrower. She is 48 years old and lives with her three children. With her share of this new loan supported by Kiva, Ahmar plans to purchase the necessary farming inputs, such as seeds and high-quality fertilizer, and to pay labour fees. This will increase her crop yield, so she can sell more at a good price, in the local market. Then she will be able to cover her family's expenses and save for the next planting season.
