Cruzche Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase inventory for her store (salt, rice, pasta, sugar, drinks) as well as more animals to raise including goats and chickens.

Cruzche Group's story

In a rural area outside of the town of El Quiché, eight women have formed the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Cruzche”. They are happily beginning their second loan cycle with Kiva. The women have a variety of small businesses including animal husbandry (chickens, goats, pigs, cattle), convenience stores, and a tortilleria (tortilla shop). They meet monthly, and after making payments on their loan, participate in educational trainings conducted by a facilitator from the organization. These trainings are part of the Microcredit Plus program (loans + education) of Friendship Bridge and are very effective. Topics range from practical business skills (planning, investing, savings) to self-esteem, empowerment and women’s rights. The women are also better able to care for their families as they acquire knowledge about nutrition, the use of medicinal plants, health and hygiene.

The president of the group is Sebastiana, who is 47 years old with a third-grade education. She has several businesses including a convenience store and raising chickens and cattle. She is requesting a loan to purchase inventory for the store (salt, rice, pasta, sugar, drinks) as well as more animals to raise including goats and chickens. She wants to generate more income so that her seven children, who range in age from 13 to 25, can enjoy a more prosperous future. It is especially important to her that her youngest children attend school.

Thank you, Kiva investors, for believing that these women can empower themselves!
