Awa's Group's story
This six-member group is part of the "banc villageois" created in December 2009, bringing together some very united and energetic women who are engaged in business, fattening animals and small-scale trade. Awa, standing on the right in the photo with her hand raised, is the featured borrower. She is 66 years old, married, and the mother of five children, including two boys. She has been engaged in animal fattening for years (more than 15 years), and has a lot of experience in this field. She works together with her husband. With her new loan, Awa plans to buy two calves and some sheep that she will raise and then resell after four or five months. She intends to use the income to help her husband with the daily expenses, especially buying food.
