Ildephonse's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a solar powered recharge station to recharge mobile phones and LED lights for rural households without electricity.

Ildephonse's story

Ildephonse is a 50-year-old from Rulindo District in the Northern Province of Rwanda. His village has no electricity and he is seeking a loan to purchase a solar panel and equipment that will enable him to create a mobile phone charging business. There are an estimated 150 households in this village, most of which have mobile phones, a critical tool for villagers to communicate with their families and to conduct business. Without electricity, people have resorted to dangerous alternatives such as using car batteries to recharge their mobile phones. With the proper equipment, Ildephonse will be able to provide a safer and affordable option to recharge phones. Ildephonse will repay the Kiva loan by charging USD 0.13 per phone recharge, a price similar to the current car battery solutions. With the money they make from recharging mobile phones and rechargeable LED lights, Ildephonse will be able to purchase better farm inputs for his garden thereby increasing output.
