Total loan: $1,475
Huasca de Ocampo, Hgo., Mexico / Agriculture
Nedeo's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped to buy a biodigester to reduce his farm’s costs and improve the environment.
Nedeo is a farmer in Hidalgo and owns 40 cows and 40 sheep. He lives with 14 family members and the income from the farm is the main source of income to support the family. He dreams of improving the infrastructure of his house and of transforming waste into resources. Nedeo is currently spending too much money on the propane required for his farming activities and to power his home for cooking and hot water. His 40-cubic-meter Sistema Biobolsa biodigester will allow him to use the abundant cow and sheep manure on-site to replace the propane. The digester will transform the waste into two important resources: methane-rich, renewable biogas and potent biofertilizer. Not only will Nedeo use the biogas to cook and heat bathwater for his family, but he will also use the biofertilizer from the biodigester to increase yields on his crops. With this biofertilizer, he will no longer have to resort to expensive, petroleum-based agrochemical fertilizers. In the future, he might even connect his milking machines to his biodigester to run them on renewable energy. This loan represents 58% of the price of the biodigester; the remaining part is paid directly by Nedeo.
