A loan helped to buy four young beef bulls.

Marta Julia's story

Marta, age 61, didn't have the opportunity to go to school. Now she is in a common law marriage and her partner works in agriculture. She has 6 children but they all have their own families; one grandchild lives with her.

Marta has worked alongside her partner for 38 years planting corn, squash, and sorghum. It was with him that she learned to work in the field. In addition, she likes to raise cattle, so she has some cows. For approximately the last 11 years she also has worked selling tamales, meat pies, roasted plantain, and more. She starts her day at 4:00 A.M. since she has to prepare breakfast for her family and go to the farm where she works for 6 hours.

She has been supported by 4 Kiva loans that she has invested in her work, and has been responsible in her payments. Now she needs a new loan to buy four young beef bulls.

She dreams to improve her home because it lacks a floor, and to have more dairy cows to sell dairy products.
