Samuel's story

Samuel, 48 years old, is married and the father of three children, although he actually takes care of five children. They are all attending school. He is very hard-working and dedicated to his work.

Samuel has been a carpenter for 22 years. Carpentry has been his major occupation and provides the main source of his family's livelihood. He owns a carpentry shop, where he manufactures all kinds of furniture items. Samuel builds chairs, wardrobes, beds, and other such pieces.

He tells us that lack of adequate working capital has prevented him from being able to pre-finance most of the orders he receives from his customers. This, he says, slows down his work because he is obliged to wait for full funds from his customers before any work can begin, which usually results in substantial delays. He requests this loan to enable him to procure useful working tools and furnishing materials, such as polish, glue, sandpaper, and wooden boards to improve upon his efficiency. He believes this will improve his income and ensure a better living for himself and his family.

It has been Samuel's dream to be one of the best carpenters in his entire community. It is also his desire to support the children in his household.
