Benkadi Group's story

Yaoudè is a member of the Benkadi group, which is comprised solely of women. She is the one pictured showing off the ram. She is 29 years old, lives in Mali, and has been married to a farmer for 12 years. She has two sons.

She did not go to school, and since the age of seven, she has been buying young rams to raise and sell She earns 30,000 FCFA profit, which she uses to lend financial support to her husband. She buys her animals at the local market where she also sells them.

Yaoudè is a regular client of RMCR who has already taken out two loans with the institution (both of which she repaid). She is asking for a third loan to buy more sheep and crabs that she will raise to be competitive on the market. This will allow her to increase her revenues to 70,000 FCFA and meet the needs of her family—specifically she will cover her children's schooling fees, healthcare costs, and clothing needs. In the future, she wants to get a metal roof for her home.
