A loan helped to buy a cow.

Ang Nua 3 Group's story

Mrs. Thuong is 26 years old and married with two sons, ages 5 and 9, who both attend school. They live in an ethnic Thai traditional stilt house. She works in agricultural production to earn a living: growing rice and coffee, and raising pigs, chickens, and ducks. To better provide for the children, Thuong has always wanted to increase her production to earn a better income. However, a farmer like her usually encounters difficulty with little capital. Thuong wants to buy a cow to diversify her agricultural activities and earn a good profit. But the price of a cow is very high and she cannot afford to buy the animal with very little money in hand.

Access to traditional financial systems, like banks, is not always convenient and easy for a poor farmer like her. Fortunately, the Anh Chi Em program came to her village and satisfied her demand of credit. This is the sixth time that she has taken out a loan from the program and she will use it to buy a cow. She hopes to gain a good result from this investment so she can better provide for her family. Mrs. Thuong dreams of a more prosperous life for her family and a bright future for her children.

In the picture, she stands first from the right.
