A loan helped To produce renewable energy for her pigs farm.

Patricia's story

Patricia is a young farmer in the south of Costa Rica who has put all her effort into developing a medium-sized pig farm. When she started she only had 4 pigs but has now managed to rear over 150. Since the beginning, certain aspects of the work have been very important to Patricia, such as suitably treating the residual water which is generated on the farm, for which she installed a waste digester that since its installation has provided bio-gas that can be used for cooking in her home. This waste digester has now come to the end of its working life, therefore Patricia requires a new system of a higher quality which allows her to continue producing bio-gas for cooking and creating heat for the piglets with lamps and bio-gas. With this new waste digester Patricia will be able to continue to suitably treat all the residual water which the farm produces, improve her quality of life, and manage to become a sustainable farm on an economic and environmental level. For Patricia, having access to the support from investors that allows her to achieve the funds in order to buy the waste digester, is a great motivation. On her part, Patricia will invest in the means to protect the waste digester such as a roof and fencing, as well as the tubes and piping for the bio-gas.
