Total loan: $2,500

Cartago, Cartago Province, Costa Rica / Agriculture

Luis's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to transform pig waste into renewable energy to keep their piglets warm.

Luis's story

Luis, his son Mauricio and his grandson Juan Pablo live together with their families in a rural part of Cartago province, in the Eastern part of el Valle Central in Costa Rica. Together they are developing a project to raise pigs. In order to manage it they need a biodigestor which will allow them to take advantage of the waste to producte biogas to keep the piglets warm.

This project will not only improve the pigs' health but will also help the family have a better quality of living minimizing the spread of flies and undesirable odors. The waste that the biodigestor produces will be used as fertilizer for the pastureland and crops. They will also save money not having to buy liquid gas to keep the piglets warm, which will allow them to make other investments on the farm.

Luis and his son belong to a family of Costa Rican entrepreneurs who need this loan to be able to realize their dream, a sustainable pig farm. Some of the costs like moving dirt, the roof and a perimeter fence will be undertaken by the producer so they are very motivated and committed.
