Tawopaneh Group's story
Meet the members of the “Tawopaneh” group from Kabala. They are all local entrepreneurs who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva, for a loan of 700,000 Sierra Leonean Leones (SLL). With the help of this loan, they will be able to expand their individual businesses, make more sales, and consequently, improve their living conditions. Mahawa is the featured leader of this group. The 50-year-old is married to a schoolteacher, and they have one child, who is in college now. Mahawa has been in business for 20 years now, selling bread and cakes. With her share of this loan, she will buy a large quantity of flour and yeast to be able to produce more bread and cakes, which will consequently increase her profit margin.Loan officer Yeankain is standing on the right hand side in the photograph.
