Mujeres La Fe Alotenango Group's story

The town of San Juan Alotenango is part of the Guatemalan Department/State of Sacatepéquez. It is at the base of the the active volcano, Fuego, and is the home of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres La Fe Alotenango” with 9 faithful women who are working hard to grow their small businesses and provide an education for their children.

Lidia is beginning her first loan cycle with KIVA investors. She is married and has 3 children between the ages of 14 and 20. Lidia owns a small convenience store. She is requesting a loan to buy more products for her store like eggs, rice, pasta, vegetables, fruit, drinks and cleaning products.

Friendship Bridge clients have little or no formal education. Lidia only attended school to the 6th grade. She works hard so that her children have a good education as she realizes that it is a key to a successful future. The “Microcredit Plus” Program (education + loans) helps her to expand her knowledge with monthly educational training, provided by a Friendship Bridge Facilitator. She also appreciates the lessons in savings, budgeting & business administration!

In funding these essential loans, KIVA investors are helping Lidia & the ladies successfully create a better future for themselves, their families & their community. Thank you!
