Retsepile Jehovah Group's story
Marenang is 39 years old, married, and has five children. She is a nurse and lives in a two-room brick house with a separated traditional hut. She uses LPG and paraffin as her sources of fuel. As the only breadwinner, school fees and fuel expenses are difficult to pay. Lesotho highlands temperatures are hardly high. Winters get very cold and often Marenang has to start the fire inside her hut which releases smog and smoke and when inhaled in large quantities over a period of time can lead to lung diseases, eye problems, and even, death. Life for people like Marenang is difficult. She requested a loan, which she will use to purchase an ACE1 cook stove, which will provide her and 14 other people from her village, living in similar circumstances, the chance of cooking in a way that does not harm them and their families and that does not require expensive paraffin and gas, or a lot of wood. This stove is smokeless, making it safe to be used inside the home and can be started with very little readily-available biomass. For more stove info, please check www.africancleanenergy.com
