A loan helped to buy a solar system for heating water for the family house.

Akram's story

Akram is a 43-year-old married man from Rafah City, which is located in the Gaza Strip and suffers from power outages regularly lasting 12 to 16 hours a day. He lives with his wife and two children in a small house. As an employee in the public sector, he earns a low income. His income barely covers the family's needs.

Because he is not able to save enough money, Akram has taken out a loan in US dollars from FATEN. With this loan, he will buy a solar system for heating water for the family house. Palestinians use water boilers to heat the water before a shower. Water boilers use natural gas or gasoline, which can be dangerous, expensive and inefficient. A solar system will help him provide hot water without using electricity, which is a much more expensive alternative.
