María Yulay's story

María lives in the city of Portoviejo. She is 42 and married, and she has four children ages 18, 15, 10, and 3. They are all in school. Her husband is a businessperson. The April 16, 2016 earthquake had a lifelong effect on them. Walls cracked and fell in both their home and their business, so it has been very stressful for them.

She has a grocery store which she has been able to stock thanks to loans through Fundación Espoir. She is very grateful for this. Her business recently had many losses. Many products went bad, and her sales also decreased. Her husband's pool hall is closed because it is not in good enough condition to be open for business. This takes away his ability to generate resources. She awaits the help of loans to move forward, trying to recover what they lost.
