A loan helped to buy organic manure.

Shallon's story

Shallon is 49 years old and a widow with eight children, ages seven, 10, 13, 15, 18, 20, 26 and 29. Five of her children attend school. Shallon’s main business is trading produce at a hotel in Kizinda. She also grows tea in the rural area of Mashonga Kyamuhunga Bushenyi district. She started her businesses in 1986. The need to provide for her rather large family singlehandedly propels Shallon to work so hard and become involved in several activities. She is honest and hardworking and her main business challenge is limited capital. Shallon is requesting a loan from Ugafode Microfinance Ltd (MDI) to purchase organic manure to improve the fertility of her soil to increase her tea yields. This will be her first loan. Shallon hopes to improve her businesses to increase her income and improve her household finances.
