Lucia's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy forage to feed her milking cows and make more cheese.

Lucia's story

Lucia is a 34 year old woman who lives with her partner, she has a 13 year old son and runs a business selling cheese. She carries out her work in the 'Calasaya' community near to the sacred Titicaca. The residents mostly earn a living from agriculture, livestock and fishing. Lucia lives with her partner who earns a living from livestock and with her son who studies at school and also helps with the animals. They live in a sun-dried brick house that has electrical energy. Her business is making cheeses, something which she learned from her family as a young girl. This consists of stocking up on milk to mix with curdling agent in order to make cheese. She has set clients who require large quantities. The area where she lives is dry and during the winter months the land is almost nonexistent, the livestock are fed from forage coming from the lake "to increase the cheese production I must feed the cows so that the make more milk". Her business is successful because the clients require large quantities. The advantage of her business is that she sells all of what she makes, the disadvantage is the lack of forage to feed her milking cows. Her dream is to improve the conditions of her stable, and she wishes to buy forage. This is her first loan with the institution in 5 years of carrying out this activity. It is for these reasons why Lucia is asking for a loan to buy forrage to feed the milking cows and produce more cheese.
